PKI In cryptography, a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) is an arrangement that provides for trusted third party vetting of, and vouching for, user identities. It also allows binding of public keys to users. This is usually carried out by software at a central location together with other coordinated software at distributed locations. The public keys are typically in certificates.

Data centers can benefit greatly from the two-factor authentication that smart cards provide to the logical realm. It's important, however, to choose a solution that fulfills the requirement of supporting PKI authentication to multiple servers from a single location and one that makes the necessary KVM feature adjustments to enable seamless use of the reader. This White Paper examines these considerations and defines best practices when evaluating a Smart Card Authentication solution.

The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) is a federally designated nonprofit corporation chartered to ensure the bulk electric system in North America is reliable, adequate and secure. To meet that goal, NERC enforces comprehensive reliability standards for planning and operating the collective bulk power system, including the Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Cyber Security Standards. These NERC-CIP standards protect Critical Cyber Assets (CCA)-the computers, servers, networks and devices and other elements of the IT infrastructure that affect the reliability of or control North America's bulk electricity systems. IT organizations in every sector of the North American energy industry face routine pressure to comply with the requirements of these standards, but must do so with limited staff and decreasing budgets.
